US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced, early Tuesday, the formation of a multinational force to protect trade in the Red Sea in the wake of attacks launched by the Houthis on ships heading to Israel, which is waging a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip that has so far claimed the lives of more than 19,000 people, most of them children. And women.
In its war on Gaza, Israel enjoys unlimited military support from the United States of America and its allies in Europe, whose cities are witnessing mass demonstrations in rejection of this war.
Austin said – in a statement during his visit to Bahrain, which includes the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet – that the countries participating in the force are Britain, Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Seychelles and Spain, adding that they will carry out joint patrols in the southern Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden as part of what he called Operation “Guardian of Prosperity.”
